NOPS Wrongful Termination Class Action

"THE ORLEANS PARISH SCHOOL BOARD WRONGFUL TERMINATION CLASS ACTION"

The class action trial, on behalf of approximately 7500 former employees of the Orleans Parish School Board, who were wrongfully terminated in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, was conducted from May 23, 2011 through June 23, 2011. The Defendants are the Orleans Parish School Board, State of Louisiana, Louisiana Department of Education, and BESE Board.

We are very proud of the case that we submitted to Judge Ethel Simms Julien for consideration. Very soon, the attorneys will receive a briefing schedule from the Court for the submission of post-trial briefs. The briefing deadline will depend a great deal upon the Court Reporter's completion of the trial transcript. Once the post-trial briefs are submitted, then the Court will be in a position to render a Judgment. It is highly likely that the Judgment will trigger appeals from the losing side.

Right now, there is no deadline for the submission of any documentation by any class member.

Suzette Bagneris serves as Liaison Counsel in that litigation. The other court appointed attorneys representing the former OPSB employees are Willie Zanders (Lead Counsel), Clarence Roby, Larry Samuel, Rico Alvendia, Anthony Irpino, Juana Lombard, and Walter Willard.
